Title: Phineas Gage                                                                                           Greg Krulas

Author: John Fleischman

Genre: Non-fiction

Phineas Gage was a railroad worker who had a terrible head injury in the 1800’s.  He was a foreman who worked with explosives and had an accident that left a hole in his head.  Despite his accident he made a “complete recovery” and shared his story while he traveled the world.  His case changed the way people looked at the brain.

Was Phineas lucky or unlucky?  I thought he was very unlucky.  He had to go through a lot after his head injury.  He did a ton of traveling, he had many  bad seizures, and had to show off like a freak.

I liked and disliked this book. I liked this book because I never heard about Phineas Gage, and it baffled my mind that he survived. The pictures were the part I liked the most because it made me pay more attention when I was bored. What I disliked about it was as it went on it got really boring because of the big words.  I give this book two stars only because it was boring.  I recommend this book to people who like science.
